Meeting with Nicolas Goldstein: From Sourcing to Payroll in Africa

Nicolas Goldstein Talenteum

Nicolas Goldstein of Talenteum tells us about hiring remote talents in Africa.

Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded Talenteum.

Nicolas Goldstein: I have been an entrepreneur in the outsourcing industry since 2004, and I am very attached to human relations and networks.

We had a vision with my partner John BENATOUIL to disrupt the job market with remote work in 2017, well before COVID 19, by creating Talenteum Africa.

Talenteum is an impact and Pan-African web platform designed to help European companies recruit and employ teams working remotely or locally in Africa. The platform handles local employment compliance, recruiting, payroll, and human resource management. We did the proof of concept in Mauritius and then Madagascar. We are now recruiting talents working remotely in more than 17 African countries.

Do you have small habits that made a meaningful impact on your life and business?

Nicolas Goldstein: We have to focus on work and always be positive every day. I could give you my habits

Wake Up at a reasonable time.

Getting up early can make a significant impact on how your day is going to shape out.

Schedule out your day.

Give yourself deadlines.

Make time for movement and Improvement in your day-to-day life.

How does your company market its product/services online?

Nicolas Goldstein: We have a strong online community behind Talenteum Africa. More than 10.000 talents share their profile to be hired remotely.

We are also investing mainly in social networks like Facebook or LinkedIn to promote our talents and services to worldwide companies.

What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to manage your online marketing?

Nicolas Goldstein: We use various software like Salesforce, LinkedIn Sales and Light, Walaxy, and Dropcontact. We try AB/Testing every week to use and test new solutions for our marketing and growth hacking strategy.

Human Resource digitalization is the most significant change affecting organizations and has since gained exponential adoption over the years; HR must execute new online methods and procedures to keep up with the rapid modernization of the workforce.

The benefits of a systematic process are creating newer operational HR processes to help improve communication, collaboration, and access to data.

What is your hiring policy/process, and how do you retain your employees?

Nicolas Goldstein: More than ever, we have to invest in human capital to attract, hire and retain employees. Covid 19 has changed the recruitment world.

I would give you this process :

  • Simplify the hiring process.
  • Find the right employees.
  • Play to your strengths.
  • Personalize communications with applicants.
  • Be transparent.
  • Prioritize the onboarding experience.
  • Provide a clear path for advancement.
  • Create an environment of open communication.

How are you funding your growth?

Nicolas Goldstein: We are lucky to have a positive cash flow and invest what we earn in our growth strategy.

Even though we have seen many mega fundraising in the EOR ( employer of Records ) space in our industry, we remain independent and agile to grow, and perhaps we will join a bigger one soon or fundraise as well.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Nicolas Goldstein: We have many competitors in the EOR space and in the staffing and recruitment space.

We try to remain focused and deliver a quality service from sourcing to hiring people, mainly in Africa.

Talenteum is a Pan African platform designed to help companies source and employ remote-working teams, mainly in Africa. It handles local employment compliance, payroll, human resource support, and benefits for international teams, enabling clients to productively hire and manage full-time personnel internationally.

Tell us a customer success story of yours.

Nicolas Goldstein: I remember one of the 1st customers against remote work and Africa.

I convinced him to try and test one or two candidates free of charge. I did the sourcing and qualification before, and also I have mentored them before, and it worked.

This customer is still with me after 4 years now, and he has a team of more than 10 people with us in all of Africa. He is 100% remote and believes in African manpower.

Your final thoughts?

Nicolas Goldstein: Get things done and always keep smiling
