Christine Slocumb, President of Clarity Quest Marketing, tells us how they grow the boldest, most innovative companies in healthcare tech and life sciences.
Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded Clarity Quest Marketing.
Christine Slocumb: I started my career as an electrical engineer working for Motorola. I loved presenting to clients and the convergence of technology and marketing, so I earned an M.B.A. and then eventually moved from engineer to product manager to VP of Marketing for several innovative startups. While working for the tech companies, I could not find agencies that understood complex technology and healthcare, so I decided to start a marketing agency to address this need.
Do you have small habits that made a meaningful impact on your life and business?
Christine Slocumb: I meditate daily, and I play golf at least once a week. It’s vital to my mental health to get outside and away from my computer.
How does Clarity Quest Marketing market its product/services online?
Christine Slocumb: We are huge believers in SEO and social marketing driven by powerful, useful content that our audience finds valuable. Our agency ranks on Google page 1 for hundreds of targeted key phrases.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to manage your online marketing?
Christine Slocumb: We have A LOT of tools. They are a requirement in successful marketing today. We’re experts in HubSpot and Act-On marketing automation. We also use Bombora CompanySurge for account-based marketing intent data. On the SEO side, we love Moz for the analytics and insights it provides.
What is your hiring policy/process, and how do you retain your employees?
Christine Slocumb: For hiring, we use our network through LinkedIn. We’ve also used ZipRecruiter with some success. We have a very high ranking on Glassdoor, which shines favorably on our agency and attracts top talent. We respect our employees and their expertise. We never micromanage team members. We hire experts and give them the room to succeed.
How are you funding your growth?
Christine Slocumb: Clarity Quest has been self-funded and cash flow positive from day one.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Christine Slocumb: We compete against an ever-growing set of small and large marketing agencies specializing in healthcare and biotech. We stay on top of marketing industry trends and analytics. We love our customers and try to exceed their expectations. We were just named the Healthcare and IT Marketing Community’s 2022 Agency of the Year based on the strength of our client recommendations.
Tell us a customer success story of yours.
Christine Slocumb: We recently generated $15M in the pipeline in 3 months for a Prognos Health – a healthcare software company selling into pharma – using educational content sharing through email and LinkedIn sponsored content campaigns. https://www.clarityqst.com/results/prognos-health/
Your final thoughts.
Christine Slocumb: B2B tech companies that succeed prioritize their marketing. They start planning marketing at the same time as platform/offering development, not 6 months before launch. Companies that starve marketing or don’t prioritize it fail or stall.
