James Lee of WLP Digital tells us how they leverage on the best technologies around to offer flexible eCommerce web solutions.
Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded WLP Digital.
James Lee: I’m a digital marketer and web developer. I started in the digital marketing industry via SEO and have learned a lot since then, including SEM and web development. After getting introduced by a friend, I started programming and have worked with frameworks such as React & Flask.
Do you have small habits that made a meaningful impact on your life and business?
James Lee: I have the habit of always working on new projects that I don’t have any experience in. For example, I recently started a machine learning project. I had zero data science experience beforehand and have since become more familiar with PyTorch and neural networks.
How does WLP Digital market its product/services online?
James Lee: This depends on the service since we’re a digital agency and offer various services from digital marketing to eCommerce web development. But we primarily use SEM and SEO to find businesses that are already aware of the benefits of digital marketing and a beautiful website.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to manage your online marketing?
James Lee: This depends on the online marketing strategy. For SEO, we use Ubersuggest, Moz, and other tools depending on what I’m doing. With SEM, I’ll use the Adwords Keyword Planner and a CRM to monitor our ad spend per enquiry and other key conversion factors.
What is your hiring policy/process, and how do you retain your employees?
James Lee: We look for applicants with a strong portfolio of companies that they’ve worked for in Singapore. Personal projects are very important. We want to find someone with the initiative which has taken up projects in their own time and is really familiar with the entire digital marketing or web development process from start to finish.
How are you funding your growth?
James Lee: WLP Digital is affiliated with WLP Group, a corporate service provider that’s been helping businesses in Singapore since 2013.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
James Lee: Some of our competitors are Verz Design & Firstcom. They are both eCommerce web design PSG Grant vendors like us.
Tell us a customer success story of yours.
James Lee: One of our customer success stories is Sake Labo. We did their videography of the achievement of the Epicurean Star Award. Sake Labo is a Sake bar in Singapore with a very unique twist. Its cuisine is Japanese tapas paired with Sake. This is a very unique combination, but they complement each other very well – the intensity of the Japanese tapas is balanced with the cleanliness of the Sake. In addition, our videography captures the beautiful interior design of the restaurant. Their interior design was inspired by the Japanese Showa period. It looks like 1920s Japan, but with a modern take.
