Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded Stone Depot.
Miguel Aquino: After working for our family’s small business for six years, I left Manila and started Stone Depot in 2015. It was difficult at first as I didn’t have enough capital to buy my initial inventory of granite, marble, and quartz slabs. I had to borrow from people I know.
Thankfully, after seven years, we’ve branched out to Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and Iloilo City. And we’re continuing to expand to other places across the Philippines.
Do you have small habits that made a meaningful impact on your life and business?
Miguel Aquino: I read a lot of business books. It helps me make better business decisions using other entrepreneurs’ experiences.
How does Stone Depot market its product/services online?
Miguel Aquino: We focus a lot on SEO and Social Media Marketing.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to manage your online marketing?
Miguel Aquino: Ahrefs and MeetEdgar
What is your hiring policy/process, and how do you retain your employees?
Miguel Aquino: We hire many young people because they bring more energy to the Team. They’re also easier to train.
Our retention program focuses on health and work-life balance for all our employees.
How are you funding your growth?
Miguel Aquino: We have angels.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Miguel Aquino: They’re primarily Manila-based suppliers.
We focus on the Visayas and Mindanao market, which is less saturated here.

Miguel Aquino: We usually encounter Clients who are happy to have found us because before, they had to ship out their granite or quartz orders from Manila. Now, they can quickly get the design and size they need right from our slab yards across the Visayas and Mindanao region.
