Pankaj Bansal, Founder, and CEO at Newspatrolling tells us about how to run a platform that provides unique and unbiased news, reviews, opinions, and insights to readers.
First of all, how are you and your family doing?
Pankaj Bansal: We are okay in most parts. There have been challenges, but I guess it has become a norm for most people now. Hopefully, things will improve in the future.
Tell us about your career and how you founded Newspatrolling.
Pankaj Bansal: After leaving college, I started working for a media agency. After learning the basics and understanding the role of media in a democratic setup, I decided to launch my own venture. I always wanted to do something of my own instead of being limited to a 9 to 5 job. There’s nothing wrong with the latter, but it was not something I personally fancied doing all my life. I was looking for a platform that could provide unique and unbiased news, reviews, opinions, and insights to readers. Newspatrolling.com was subsequently launched in 2013.
How does Newspatrolling market its product/services online?
Pankaj Bansal: We employ the standard set of SEO and SEM tools to promote our online platform. However, frankly speaking, we are yet to reach a point where we can do that on a massive scale. We rely more on developing content that is truly useful to our readers and difficult to find elsewhere. We believe people will come back for more and share with others if the content is really good. This works out better for us as compared to running paid campaigns.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how did you get through it?
Pankaj Bansal: Online platforms across the globe have benefited during the pandemic in terms of increased traffic. It was driven by factors like lockdown, online shopping, and the search for information about health, finance, jobs, etc. We ensure that our readers have access to the latest, relevant information 24/7.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to manage your online marketing?
Pankaj Bansal: As mentioned earlier, we focus more on creating content that’s really useful to our readers. Much of our traffic is generated through shares and organic sources. We use standard tools such as Google Analytics, social platforms, and some other third-party tools to promote our content.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Pankaj Bansal: We may appear as a small fish in a big ocean. Yet, we have done pretty well, as we are a lot more agile and creative. Our real strength is our independence in terms of the type of news and stories we publish. We are a truly independent portal and have no affiliation with any businesses, political parties, or other power centers. We are under no pressure or compulsions whatsoever when it comes to posting news and stories.
Your final thoughts?
Pankaj Bansal: We would like to thank our readers for their continued support. And we endeavor to continue providing unbiased, useful, and informative content on Newspatrolling.
