Syed ZESHAN AHMED of Black Production Films tells us how they dream, explore, create and craft progressive digital experiences.
Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded Black Production Films.
Syed ZESHAN AHMED: I graduated in Film & TV Production, then worked with different reputable television channels in Pakistan. I started getting freelance projects, and I figured there were no Video Production companies in Pakistan that had educated media professionals, so I joined hands with my University mates and started my company Black Production Films.
Do you have small habits that made a meaningful impact on your life and business?
Syed ZESHAN AHMED: We do a lot of small charity, food distribution, etc. We under commit and over deliver our clients. This has really impacted my life and work.
How does Black Production Films market its product/services online?
Syed ZESHAN AHMED: We don’t actually use any kind of marketing. Whatever good about us is out there is the natural word of mouth. Existing clients recommend new clients, and that’s how we get new projects. This also helps us screen potential clients from others.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to manage your online marketing?
Syed ZESHAN AHMED: None.
What is your hiring policy/process, and how do you retain your employees?
Syed ZESHAN AHMED: We are very choosy when it comes to hiring new people. We want people who are honest, hardworking, prompt, and creative. These qualities are hard to find, so we always look for good employees.
How are you funding your growth?
Syed ZESHAN AHMED: We fund our growth ourselves with the earnings from the last project, which goes into buying new gear, equipment, etc.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Syed ZESHAN AHMED: What we do is different when it comes to Film/video production. Pakistan has a shortage of honest, educated media professionals who can comprehend the brief and execute the production accordingly, so I would say that we are an agency/production company. When clients come to us directly, there is no chance of a Chinese whisper. The information always gets interpreted correctly. 80% of our clients are based in foreign countries. They trust and recommend us to other new prospective clients.
Tell us a customer success story of yours.
Syed ZESHAN AHMED: Facebook hired us for a project. They showed us a video as a reference. After we sent the first cut, we asked them for changes. They asked us back what our thoughts were. We said it looks fine, but a few shots could be edited out. They replied, whatever you think is the best, do it, as we love the work. It was so surprising that a company like Facebook is so easygoing; it was creatively very liberating. Later they told us that they would be using our video as a reference next time because it was the best of all the videos they have done around the globe.
Your final thoughts?
Syed ZESHAN AHMED: We strive to improve not only our lives but the lives of the people around us, especially by creating content that makes a small, big, or any difference. Slowly and steadily we are going international, bigger and better clients each year.
